The Born rule is the game

Here is the cheap way to make a "quantum game," and almost everyone takes it: you take a game people already like, and you sprinkle vocabulary on it. A maze, but the walls are "entangled." A shooter, but the bullets are "in superposition." The nouns change; the game underneath is exactly the classical thing it always was. It's a costume. You could strip the words off and lose nothing.

I didn't want to build a costume. So the question that actually mattered while building COLLAPSE was: what would break if you removed the quantum? If the answer is "the theme," it's a costume. If the answer is "the game," you've got something real. Two things had to survive that test.

The skill has to be a thing with no classical shadow

The mechanic COLLAPSE is built on is interference — amplitudes adding and cancelling. That is the one quantum phenomenon with no classical analog at all. Probability, in the ordinary world, only ever piles up; it never subtracts. In a quantum amplitude it can cancel — two ways of arriving at the same place can annihilate each other. So the skill in COLLAPSE isn't "pick the right move." It's arranging your amplitude so that the paths to the star reinforce and the paths to everywhere else destroy. You can feel it in the probability meter: a gate that should help sometimes hurts, because you moved a phase and turned a constructive sum into a destructive one. Nothing in checkers does that. Strip the quantum and the skill is gone, not just the paint.

The unfair part is the point, and you don't get to remove it

This is the one that took discipline. When you've built the amplitude up — say the star is at 90% — the tempting design is: reward the player, let them win. Make measurement deterministic above some threshold. It would feel fair. Skill in, win out.

And it would be a lie. Because the entire content of quantum mechanics — the whole strange heart of it — is the gap between the probability you shaped and the outcome you don't own. 90% means it betrays you one time in ten. Not as a punishment, not as difficulty tuning: as physics. A real experimentalist at a real machine shapes the odds with everything they know and then takes the shot and sometimes eats the 10%. There is no skill level that closes that gap. There is no closing it. It is the thing itself.

So COLLAPSE keeps it. You get good — genuinely good, you learn to push the star past 90% — and you still have to gamble. The measurement is a real Born-rule draw against the real distribution you built. The game is the gap. Most quantum games sand it off because it feels bad. Sanding it off is the exact moment the game stops being quantum.

Why this is the same creed as everything else here

The house rule around here is ahogy a dolgok vannak — as things are. It usually shows up in code: don't claim a test passed that didn't, don't bill for what you can't deliver. But it's the same rule in a game. An honest quantum game reports the physics as it is, including the part that's unfair to the player. The temptation to make it feel better is exactly the temptation to make it false.
